Dimension 70 is the latest new studio in downtown Manhattan. New York City’s new studio is ensconced in a former synagogue (which was in use in the early 1900’s) and has even done some time as a whisky till during the prohibition era. Today the space has been renovated to be a recording studio- a home for music, creativity, and community. The facility houses two studio rooms, with Studio 1 being equipped with a 32 channel API 1608-II console. Studio 1 is situated to be the main tracking room. The live room, which is 20’ x 14’, is between custom stained glass windows-replete with an interstellar Marlon Pruz mural, lending itself to a creative and inspiring atmosphere. The control room (which is 20’ x 14’) has windows that connect the live room and the isolation booth (9’ x 15’) , so that all three rooms have a direct line of sight, concurrently. All of the instruments and equipment were chosen with great care, in the hopes of kindling a mixture of tried and true, and modern and avant garde; providing artists a selection of choices for their creative exploration.
Studio 2 is a 10’ x 11’ private production and mix suite, and is currently in use by mix/mastering engineer Joshua Pleeter, who as worked with Topaz Jones, Gabriel Garzon-Montano, Princess Nokia, Felly, Carrtoons, and Masego, to name a few.
To complete this studio build Sound Fabrication worked with Francis Manzella on the design process, and with DDCG heading up the construction. Together, Sound Fabrication and Francis Manzella provided all furniture, acoustic treatments and custom millwork. The rear wall diffuser was a unique collaboration between Francis Manzella and Sound Fabrication’s own Dave Kotch. Various models were created in AFMG Reflex to optimize the diffusion for the room.
This all new recording studio in New York City’s downtown Manhattan, presents a fresh recording space with uniquely designed diffusers, custom millwork and fabrication by Sound Fabrication, in collaboration with Francis Manzella. With the launch of this studio, comes a new home for music and recording in lower Manhattan.
